Manual Trans input seal
Pull off the shift fork and release bearing, remove the 6 fastening nuts & washers
Pry the cover off gently, the pivot ball stays in the cover
With the cover removed, you see the shim for the input shaft bearing, put this back in the same orientation you found it
On the lower shaft there is a spacer ring, you may pull it out to make removing the gasket easier, again put it back in the same orientation you found it
Don't flip them over
Seal is pushed in from the back side of the cover, when you put the cover back on you will have to put the shim into the cover and lube the seal before you put the cover back on
This also comes back as a DSM transfer case seal, its about 4.00 at the dealer
Upper seal new - Lower seal used
You can see the sealing edge worn off and it now has a slightly flattened edge
This seal was on a shaft that was moving around from a pilot bearing that had failed and came apart
Shifting your trans. with a worn pilot or a failed one has got to be difficult and it makes for a very gooey mess inside the bellhousing
You can get gasket paper and make a gasket for this, take note of the old gasket and its shape, it doesn't go over the cover where the lower shaft bushing makes contact and it does cover over where the 3 selector shafts protrude out
Use some sealant on the gasket, you'll have to put it on over the bolts in the bellhousing first
